RND: Italy may control sea rescue ships

The European Court of Justice (ECJ) has ruled: Italian authorities are in principle allowed to inspect sea rescue ships in Italian ports. I describe in an interview with RND that the right-wing populists in Italy will not miss the opportunity to make this an issue. I also accuse the Italian authorities of perfidious tactics: "The authorities know that people in distress at sea must be rescued. International law prescribes that. So they try to harass the civilian sea rescuers to keep them from their missions." The security aspects of the controls in the ports are "obviously pretextual, because they don't want to openly say that they want to enforce an anti-human rights migration defense."
