The European asylum compromise will not alleviate the suffering at the EU's external borders because it will neither tackle the causes of flight nor lead to more solidarity among the member states. To my SWR daily interview.
In Europatalk, I discussed European refugee policy with Lena Düpont (CDU). I explained why the right-wing Italian government has no constitutional answers to offer and why it must stop obstructing sea rescues. To the program.
In Die Zeit, I discussed the current migration situation with Christin Dürr (FDP) and explained why tough deterrence measures do not automatically lead to fewer people coming. Click here for the interview.
In the TV debate with Philipp Amthor, I explained why the individual right to asylum cannot simply be abolished and why this demand is pure populism. Click here for the program.
In the Phoenix Roundtable, I discussed the current state of asylum and migration policy with Alexandra Throm (CDU), Tonia Mastrobuoni (La Repubblica) and Michael Bröcker (The Pioneer). Go to the program’s here.
On Deutschlandfunk radio, I made it clear that a migration agreement with Tunisia will not work and that Italy should actually have taken in many more refugees. To the interview.
I talked to NDR about the rescue of over 600 people by Ocean Viking and the situation of sea rescue in general. You can listen to the seven-minute conversation listen here.
In the moma duell, I explained to Thorsten Frei, the parliamentary director of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group, why we cannot abolish the individual right to asylum. I consider this proposal to be unworkable and a confunctur program for right-wing extremists. You can find the eleven-minute argument here.
In an interview with Die Welt, I spoke about the so-called pact with Tunisia. This is about the terrible conditions in Tunisia, which simply abandons refugees in the desert. Cooperation with Tunisia only makes sense if Tunisia also adheres to human rights and we make migration agreements that include safe escape routes and work visas. Instead of working on such solutions, conferences are held to simulate that there are other easy answers. You can watch the entire five-minute interview here.
