One of mine at Borderline Europe commissioned study analyzes the criminalization of refugees as suspected smugglers in Greece and shows how the rule of law is being undermined. The Frankfurter Rundschau has published the key findings of the study summarized here.
I spoke to Table Media about the reform towards a common European asylum system. I advocate proceeding step by step and solving concrete problems with individual changes. Otherwise, we risk undermining the Geneva Convention on Refugees. You can read the whole interview here.
I had an honest conversation with the taz about the approval of the German government of the Council position on the CEAS – which I reject – and with which the Greens have lost a lot of credibility. I have criticized the agreement of the Interior Ministers in the Council on the Common European Asylum System. The bottom line is that it is not really clear what will be improved. Overall, it looks as if the Council is primarily trying to simulate the ability to act instead of really improving anything. You can find the entire conversation here.

At Interview with WDR 5 I made it clear that we should focus on sea rescue and a solidarity-based distribution of refugees in Europe instead of always demanding higher penalties for smugglers.
T-Online has me on the federal-state refugee summit. asked for an assessment. I have made it clear that foreclosure and deportation rhetoric will not solve the problems and that we need pragmatic solutions instead.
